Dense urban areas heat up increasingly during summer. Feuchtgebiete is a project in which special bricks are produced for the settlement of mosses. Mosses can absorb a lot of moisture and store it for a long time. Due to their large surface area, they release moisture, which noticeably cools down their environment. In addition, mosses attract fi ne dust and convert it into biomass. Some of the bacteria living on the moss can even metabolize soot and tire abrasion. The modules are made of porous ceramic, which can store large quantities of rainwater. The fronts of the bricks are slanted so that more rain hits the surface and the moss has a better grasp. The texture of the fronts also makes it possible to hold the moss. The bricks can be used in the construction of new buildings as well as on existing architecture.
