Our Local Nettle is a collection of recipes and experiments dedicated to the various uses of the stinging nettle. For many just a weed, but in reality this super plant offers multiple nutritional and medicinal properties, in addition to its legendary qualities as a local cellulose fiber for the production of textiles. As an open lab for interaction, Our Local Nettle reinterprets the image of this urban plant, and motivates people to integrate nettles as a local resource in everyday life. Throughout the project, food recipes and design practices were tested. From “nettleade”, to nettle paper, extraction of fibers and yarn plying, nettle cordage, printing paste and nettle ink. Any material rests can be turned into a nutritious garden fertilizer. (Process stages and results can be observed at the final piece.)
