In a fast-changing world driven by an accelerated economy full of short-lived products, biodegradability has become the most important material property. Hence why the project Beyond Plastic focuses on developing machines, processes and materials to create products that suit this reality, and can substitute for example single-use plastic cutlery. Working within the world-wide recycling network of Precious Plastic, Beyond Plastic enables people all over the world to set up their own production sites where they turn local food waste into valuable biodegradable products. All information, tutorials and plans of the developed machines, processes and materials will be made available online, open-source and free-of-charge. The final outcomes of this project were exhibited during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.
